EIB Étoile bilingual high school: Diploma Programme

The International Baccalaureate programmes are offered in more than 5,700 schools around the world and are taught in English, French and/or Spanish. At Lycée EIB Étoile, we have chosen to offer a bilingual French-English program. Students can obtain the Bilingual International Baccalaureate Diploma.

This preparation for the International Baccalaureate curriculum, which starts in Seconde Générale (10th Grade), enables students to enter the IBDP final cycle.

In Seconde option IB, students follow a core curriculum in French and English, depending on the subject, and specific pre-IB teaching in English in a range of subjects (literature, MUN prep eloquence, mathematics, economics) to familiarise them with English-language teaching in a range of humanistic and scientific subjects.
At the end of seconde, they can choose :

  • prepare for the IBDP and enter the IB terminal cycle
  • apply for 1ère générale to follow the final cycle of the French general baccalauréat (admission tests)

The Diploma Programme (DP) consists of six subject groups and a core curriculum. The latter includes :

  • Theory of Knowledge (TOK): students are encouraged to reflect on the nature of knowledge and to examine how we know what we claim to know.

  • The Extended Essay consists in writing an individual piece of pre-university research in the subject of the student’s choice (4000 words). The aim is to develop research, communication (written and oral) and time management skills.

  • The Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) programme emphasizes arts, sports and volunteering activities throughout the programme.

SUBJECT GROUPS:

Students must choose 6 subjects. They may have a maximum of 2 subjects in groups 1, 3 or 4. Underlined subjects in groups 3, 4 and 5 are taught in English.

The benefits of an IB education

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop intellectual curiosity, openness to the world, intercultural respect, sensitivity, knowledge and determination to succeed in building a better world. Students are challenged to excel both academically and personally.

The pedagogy and subjects are the same from one country to another and examinations are held at the same time all over the world: the grading system is identical and harmonized. Universities therefore know the candidate's level in each subject.

The International Baccalaureate is an excellent preparation for university studies. The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Programme is recognized and respected by the world's most prestigious universities.

Students are encouraged to develop their intellectual independence and nurture their own education. They are trained to ask challenging questions, develop research skills and think critically. They acquire strong academic, social and emotional skills to succeed in their academic careers. Thanks to the IB, students are able to interact in an increasingly globalized and fast-changing world. DP students are better able than their peers to cope with demanding workloads, manage their time and meet the expectations placed upon them.

Joining IBDP also means joining an international network of alumni.

EIB Étoile bilingual high school: the IB learner profile

IB assessments and examinations

Students of our bilingual school must choose three subjects at Standard Level (SL) and three at High Level (HL). Each SL subjects requires 150 hours of teaching over the 2 years while HL subjects require 240 hours. However, all six subjects have the same examination coefficient.

To pass, a student must obtain at least 24 points out of 45. Each subject is marked out of 7 and a minimum of 2/7 is required in each subject. The International Baccalaureate is a holistic programme, requiring a strong level across the board.

Here are our policies (in French):
