Nursery School

Our private nursery School covers the first three years of school life – known in French as maternelle.

Bilingual education from the age of three

Young students can join the bilingual nursery class during the calendar year in which they turn three. All classes in the nursery school are taught in both French and English with equal time for each language. To achieve this there are three more hours of teaching per week than in a regular school. Children do not already need to speak French or English to enroll in nursery school.

Learning goals

We follow the French national curriculum with the following goals for each year:

Nursery (Petite Section):

  • Socialisation – learn to live together
  • Understand and follow basic instructions in both languages

Reception (Moyenne Section):

  • Hold a pencil
  • Write their first name in capital letters
  • Get dressed without help
  • Draw a person
  • Focus on a task

Year 1 (Grande Section):

  • Understand and apply some basic instructions
  • Write in cursive, write & recognise my first name
  • Match sounds and letters
  • Simple arithmetic operations

A well-rounded start to school life

As well as reaching the important milestones above, children in the nursery school spend time surrounded by nature on a daily basis. We also understand the importance of rest when it comes to learning, and our youngest students have a dedicated nap room.

Extra-curricular activities and after school care

In the third year of nursery school, students can opt to join our “writing a book” extra-curricular activity, where they each write their own book to take home at the end of the year. After school care is available from Monday to Thursday until 6pm (please note that after-school care is not available on Wednesdays).
