English Passerelle

"English Passerelle" programme at EIB de la Jonchère

We are pleased to introduce you to the new “English Passerelle” programme at EIB de la Jonchère. This programme has been carefully designed to meet the specific needs of non-English speaking or first time English speakers in 6ème and 5ème (Grade 6 and 7), in order to strengthen and diversify their command of the English language while facilitating their transition into our bilingual programme.

Context

At our school, we recognise the unique challenges that students at the highest levels face when embarking on a bilingual or multilingual programme. In response to these challenges, we have developed the "English Passerelle" programme to offer linguistic and academic support tailored to each student.

Objectives

  1. To develop the English language skills of students in 6ème and 5ème.
  2. To facilitate the integration of students into our bilingual curriculum which follows the French National Education Programme.
  3. To prepare students to join the regular English classes at our school.

Programme content

The "English Passerelle" programme is a late immersion course in the English language, lasting between 1 and 2 years, depending on the individual's rate of language acquisition. Students will benefit from 12 hours per week of intensive English language classes, including both specific courses and the integration of English into regular subjects. Art and coding classes will be taught in English for 2 hours a week.

Transition process

During the “English Passerelle” programme, students will be regularly assessed according to the criteria of standard Cambridge language level tests, in line with the European framework. This assessment will measure each student's linguistic progress and determine their readiness to join regular English classes.

Family involvement

We firmly believe in the importance of collaboration between the school and families to ensure the success of each student. As part of the “English Passerelle” programme, regular meetings will be organised with families to share students' progress, discuss any challenges and support their academic and linguistic development.
