Bilingual Nursery School EIB Lamartine

The bilingual nursery school, or maternelle, is made up of a three-year cycle – Nursery, Reception Class and Year 1. These are known as the Petite Section, Moyenne Section and Grande Section in France. To join the nursery class, a child must be 3 years old in the calendar year during which the school year begins. To ensure dedicated attention for each child, pupils are supervised by teachers assisted by nursery assistants.

Bilingual teaching from nursery onwards

EIB Lamartine bilingual nursery follows the official French curriculum while integrating daily English language instruction right from the word go. English language learning begins with 30 minutes per day, taught through playful and interactive methods such as games and songs.

Weekly teaching hours

In the nursery class, children are taught in small groups of 15 students. During this first school year, the children have part-time classes, in the morning or afternoon, five days a week, for a progressive adaptation to the school system.

From reception class (moyenne section) onwards, children attend school full time, four days a week (excluding Wednesdays). Children in reception enjoy one hour of English per day, taught through active and stimulating lessons using song, play and storytelling. Children are divided into groups based on their English level.

EIB Lamartine bilingual school offers ‘Happy Wednesdays’, workshops entirely conducted in English so that the children can learn the language as a natural means of communication.

The development of listening and speaking skills progresses in Year 1, where children continue with one hour of English per day, in structured programmes adapted to their level of competence.
