Curriculum & Languages

EIB Lamartine private school combines the French National Curriculum with specialised English language learning. This means that by the time students move to middle school (collège), they are confident in their English skills and ready to build on a strong language learning foundation.

A quarter of every day takes place in English

In Elementary, the teaching of English occupies 25% of school time, a total of 6 hours per week. From Year 2 (CP) onwards, students are divided into groups according to their respective levels, from beginners to native English speakers.

Reading and writing in English begins in Year 3 (CE1), when classes start to align with the English National Curriculum along with the French National Curriculum. In their last year of Primary School, students have the opportunity to take the "Cambridge Young Learners" exam, in partnership with the British Council.

EIB Lamartine also offers “Happy Wednesdays”, English language workshops on Wednesday mornings. Created by the English department of our private school in Paris, these activities encourage the practice of the language through artistic and cultural activities that develop both the children's creativity and knowledge.

Optional Spanish lessons

The learning of Spanish is optional from Year 5 (CM1) onwards. If selected, Spanish is studied for 2 hours per week. Our classes cover both the written and spoken language. Quarterly assessments allow us to evaluate our students’ progress. Students that opt for Spanish lessons see a significant advance in language learning once they reach middle School (collège).
