EIB Grenelle strives to teach their students about recycling and ecology. We are then very proud of our students from Year 3 and Year 4 who have decided to create an Eco-Club. Their main objective is to raise awareness in our school about the importance of recycling, waste and how we can improve our habits to be more eco-friendly.
They have already set up a recycling system in each classroom and have gone around to each class to inform them about the importance of recycling and how waste is a huge problem for our environment.
Students have learned that everyday billions and billions of pieces of trash are being thrown away each day and this is causing a real problem in our environment, including the animals in their habitats. We also learned that small actions can make a big impact.
Therefore, for their next project, the Eco-Club would like to invite the whole school to participate in a project called No Plastic Friday. One Friday per month for the rest of the school year, students will be encouraged to bring snacks which do not come in single-use packaging. They will be able to bring foods such as fruits, vegetables or even their snacks in reusable Tupperware. Then, one student from each class will count the number of single-use plastic brought in on that day. Our aim is to have zero plastic.
The dates for No Plastic Friday are :
- March 18th
- April 15th
- May 13th
- June 17th
Not only does this project teach students about sustainability, but also encourages healthy eating.
Such a great initiative - congratulations to our students !
