Globeducate France Robotics Challenge 2024: A Day of Innovation and Competition

Tuesday, May 21st 2024 saw the third edition of the Globeducate France Robotics Challenge, a much-anticipated event that brought together young talents from schools in Paris and the south of France. As in previous years, the challenge took place at Collège EIB Monceau, with 44 teams representing 10 schools: EIB Lamartine, EIB Monceau, EIB Grenelle, EIB de la Jonchère, Collège EIB Monceau, Lycée EIB Etoile, ICS Paris, Hattemer Bilingue 8ème, ICS Côte d'Azur, and ISN Nice, the latter participating remotely. 
 

Theme and Challenges

The theme of this year's challenge was inspired by the science fiction film Tron. The world of Steven Lisberger's feature film allowed our students to dive into a universe populated by futuristic entities. 

The teams, divided into three levels (primary, middle school, high school), had the opportunity to showcase their Lego™ Spike robot programming skills. The tests took place in two sessions: one in the morning and one in the afternoon. For primary school pupils, a bonus mission was added, offering an additional opportunity to distinguish themselves by programming a robotic dance. 

The main objective of the events was to programme the robots to carry out various missions on a competition mat. This arena included a complex course with numerous obstacles, through which the robots had to navigate with precision and efficiency.

Final Results 

The results of this competition exceeded all expectations, with several teams standing out for their exceptional performances. 

Primary category

Four teams tied for the maximum score of 310 points. In order to decide between them, each team's coding time was counted and taken into account, demonstrating the importance of speed and efficiency in programming.

Middle School category

The Collège EIB Monceau teams dominated this category, taking the top three places with very similar scores.

3. Leto - Collège EIB Monceau

High school category 

In the high school category, ISN Nice came out on top, taking first place by a comfortable margin. The EIB students were not to be outdone, however, taking 2nd and 3rd place.

Closing Ceremony and Future Prospects

To round off an eventful day and present the prizes to the winners, we were honoured to welcome : Line Vissot-Weil, President of Globeducate France, Jean-Xavier Moreau, Managing Director of EIB Paris and Hattemer Bilingue, Daniel Jones, Chief Education Officer of Globeducate, and the heads of the participating schools. 

Many thanks to all those involved in organising this challenge: teachers, supervisors, administrative and operational staff, headteachers, and so many others. Their dedication and commitment were essential to the success of this event. 

Until now, the Robotics Challenge has only been held in France, but its success has inspired Globeducate. Building on its success, this event will now be offered to other Globeducate schools in the coming years, and will take place all over the world.

A Day Rich in Learning

This year's Globeducate France Robotics Challenge was marked by a high level of participation and competition. Not only were the young participants able to put their knowledge of robotics and programming into practice, but they also developed essential skills such as teamwork, problem-solving and time management. 

Collège EIB Monceau has once again proved its ability to organise high-quality educational events, and the success of the day promises a bright future for future editions of the challenge.
