International Baccalaureate (IB) Curriculum
EIB Étoile bilingual high school offers the French-English bilingual (50/50) International Baccalaureate (IB) programme to its pupils.
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is a two-year educational programme designed for students typically aged 16 to 19. Administered by the International Baccalaureate (IB) Organization, this diploma-granting programme operates independently of national curricula and is internationally accredited, enabling graduates to gain admission to higher education institutions around the world.

Admission of a new student to the IB (International Baccalaureate) programme depends on the quality of their application and the availability of places.
In addition, any student wishing to enter IBDP1 must sit a test in French and/or English and mathematics.
For all enquiries regarding admission to the International Baccalaureate programme at the Lycée Bilingue EIB Étoile, please visit this page.

The Diploma Programme (DP)
The International Baccalaureate programmes are offered in over 5,800 schools across 162 countries and are taught in English, French and/or Spanish.
At EIB Étoile High School, we have chosen to offer a bilingual French-English programme. Students can therefore obtain the International Baccalaureate Diploma with a Bilingual designation.
In Seconde (Year 11) 2nde, there is a preparatory course for the International Baccalaureate curriculum that enables pupils to progress to the IBDP programme in their final years.
In the preparatory year for the IBDP programme, pupils at our bilingual school follow a core curriculum of French and English National Curriculum subjects, depending on the subject, alongside specific preparatory teaching in English across various disciplines (English literature, public speaking, MUN preparation, mathematics, economics) to familiarise them with English-medium teaching in a range of humanities and science subjects.
The Diploma Programme (DP) consists of six subject groups and a core curriculum. This comprises:
At the end of the second year, they can choose:

- To prepare for the IBDP and enter the IB final cycle
- To apply to follow the final cycle of the French general baccalaureate (subject to entrance exams)

The benefits of the International Baccalaureate (IB)
The International Baccalaureate aims to foster intellectual curiosity, global awareness, intercultural respect, as well as the empathy, knowledge and determination needed to help build a better world. Students are thus encouraged to excel both academically and personally.
The teaching methods and subjects are the same from one country to another, and exams take place at the same time all over the world: the marking system is identical and standardised. This means that universities are aware of the candidate’s level in each subject.
The International Baccalaureate provides excellent preparation for university studies. The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme® (IBDP) is recognised and respected by the world’s most prestigious universities. Every year, more than 4,500 universities in over 110 countries and territories receive applications from IB students along with their transcripts.
Students are encouraged to develop intellectual independence and take ownership of their own education. They are trained to ask challenging questions, develop their research skills and critical thinking. They acquire strong academic, social and emotional skills to succeed in their academic journey. Thanks to the IB, students are able to engage with an increasingly globalised and rapidly changing world. DP students are better equipped than their peers to cope with demanding workloads, manage their time and meet the expectations placed upon them.
Joining the IBDP also means becoming part of an international alumni network.

IB assessments and exams

Students must choose three Standard Level (SL) subjects and three Higher Level (HL) subjects. Each SL subject comprises 150 hours of teaching over the two years of the programme, whilst HL subjects require 240 hours. However, all six subjects carry the same weighting in the exams.
To obtain the diploma, a student must achieve at least 24 points out of 45. Each subject is marked out of 7, and a minimum of 2/7 is required in each subject. The International Baccalaureate is a holistic programme, requiring a good overall standard.
