EIB de la Jonchère

EIB Monceau bilingual elementary school

EIB Monceau bilingual primary school follows the French national curriculum, under contract with the Ministry of National Education, and adheres to national assessment systems. Our school aims to instil a love of the French language and culture, whilst operating in a dynamic, international environment where many nationalities are represented.

Two sites in the 8th arrondissement

The classes at EIB Monceau, a private bilingual primary school in Paris’s 8th arrondissement, are spread across two sites, namely:

  • The Vigny building at 7, rue Alfred de Vigny, 75008 Paris
  • The main building at 6 Avenue Van Dyck, 75008 Paris.

A structured and progressive approach to learning English

In CP (Year 2), English is taught exclusively through oral communication to consolidate pupils’ existing French language skills (except for native English speakers). From CE1 (Year 3) onwards, pupils devote 25% of their school time to English, amounting to 6 hours per week, organised into groups based on proficiency levels ranging from beginner to native.

From CE1-CM2 (Years 3-6), pupils follow Cambridge programmes tailored to their level. Pupils in the ‘native literacy’ group follow an Oxford programme based on the Cambridge International Curriculum and study novels read in English-speaking countries. Learning to read and write in English begins in CE1.

In CM2, pupils can sit the ‘Cambridge Young Learners’ exam, accredited by the British Council, which provides international recognition of the level achieved.

For pupils joining the school in CM1 and CM2 (Year 5 or Year 6), a minimum level of English is required. Beginners may be accepted provided they attend the intensive English course ‘Let’s Take Off!’ every Wednesday morning for one academic year.
